Lucknow: Fresh political discussions have emerged in Uttar Pradesh after reports suggested that the Indian National Congress may consider a strategic alliance with the Indian Union Muslim League for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. The speculation has gained momentum following the success of the Congress-led United Democratic Front in Kerala, where the Muslim League continues to play a significant role in the coalition government.
Political observers believe the Congress is reassessing its strategy to strengthen its outreach among Muslim voters, particularly in Muslim-dominated constituencies across Uttar Pradesh. Reports indicate that the party has prepared assessments of several key seats and may rely on the Muslim League if a broader alliance with the Samajwadi Party does not materialise.
The development comes amid increasing competition among opposition parties over Muslim votes in the state. Alongside Congress and the Samajwadi Party, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen led by Asaduddin Owaisi has also intensified preparations for Mission 2027, particularly in Muslim-majority constituencies.
Political analysts say Uttar Pradesh, where Muslims account for nearly 20 percent of the electorate and influence more than 140 assembly seats, could witness a major realignment if new alliances emerge. The possibility of Congress exploring ties with the Muslim League and reports of outreach towards the Bahujan Samaj Party have further added to the political buzz.

Meanwhile, statements from Congress leaders, including Imran Masood, suggesting that the party does not need political “support crutches” in Uttar Pradesh, have fuelled speculation about growing differences within the opposition bloc. Analysts believe any fragmentation of opposition votes, especially among Muslim voters, could ultimately benefit the Bharatiya Janata Party ahead of the high-stakes 2027 elections.
